On Sunday, 3rd of May, the Vienna Vikings attack at 3 p.m.in group A for the first time in the event of this year´s BIG 6. In the game of the Berlin Adler against the Austrians in the Poststadion it is an all or nothing game for the German capital club after a 15-57 loss in the first group game in Schwäbisch Hall.
With the result, the tam from Berlin is in the underdog role again, after a success less season opener in the GFL with a 0-30 defeat in Düsseldorf. Nevertheless, Head Coach Erich Schramm is pugnacious: “In the Game we are clearly the underdog, but we have no fear. Our young guns can play free now. We’re getting better from game to game and we compensate our lack of experience with every play.”
The guest from Vienna has already a disappointment with the last 17-30 against the SWARCO Raiders Tirol, the second Austrian representatives in the BIG 6. But with a 3-1 record, the Vikings still lead the AFL in the alpine republic.
A special point of the game is the fact that the two Eurobowl champions of the last two years face each other.
The Vikings are certainly warned and tread carefully despite the two bitter defeats of Berlin. “We know the strengths of the Berlin Adler and how to face it. We know that they have a lot of quality. We know that there is a lot to win or to loose and we are focused in this game. The long journey is certainly not an advantage for us. After the defeat in Tirol, the entire crew is eager to get back on track. We are well prepared and want to win in Berlin” said head coach Chris Calaycay.
Both teams need to win to have a chance of a place in the finals of the BIG 6, the Eurobowl XXIX. The Adler are already out of the running with a lost, Wien can compensate a defeat with a win against the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns in the last game of the group.
