The group games of the BIG6 enter its second half and now the German vice champion and last year’s Eurobowl finalist also engages in the battle for the European crown.
The Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns meet on Saturday, April 30th, 5 p.m. the Berlin Adler in the game of group B. No question, the host wants to celebrate a success in their own Optima Sports Park.
Anything less than a win would be a big surprise in the present situation of both teams, after the Adler have lost their first game in the BIG6 last Sunday at home with 0-58 against the SWARCO RAIDERS Tirol. It shows, that the Berlin team has currently not the class of the European heavyweights.
However, the Adler continues their chosen path and count again on their 19-year-old quarterback Paul Zimmermann, who really impressed Halls´ Head Coach Siegfried Gehrke: “He has a very strong arm and also convinced with very good running skills.”
The team from Hall will go in the game against the Adler with the self-confidence of the first victory in the GFL. Last weekend they defeated the strong newcomer of the Samsung Frankfurt Universe with 26-21. The fact is also that it is hard to formulate a different target than a victory against the Adler as the reigning vice-champion and finalist of the last year BIG6.
The Unicorns however have to plan without their last year’s leading scorer Patrick Donahue on Saturday. The US-boy followed an invitation of the NFL for a practice tryout.
The target of Hall is to reach a place in the Eurobowl again. Therefore they have to beat in the group games both the Berlin Adler and the SWARCO RAIDERS Tirol in Innsbruck one week later. “Our slogan this year is, win the Moment ‘”, says Halls Head Coach Siegfried Gehrke. “Therefore we do not even think of Innsbruck. The task is Berlin. This game is the focus, and we want to win it. ”
